Journalism Experience

August 2005 to present San Francisco, CA and New York, NY	Freelance Writer and Editor Enterprise, write and report feature articles, investigative stories and culture pieces for publications such as San Francisco magazine, The New York Times, Glamour, Village Voice and Wired News. Regularly conduct and edit attorney Q&A’s for California Lawyer magazine; produce newsletters and articles as a contributing writer for the George Lucas Educational Foundation’s Edutopia.org.
June 2004 to August 2005 San Francisco, CA	California Lawyer Magazine Associate Editor Enterprised, wrote and reported feature articles and news shorts related to California legal affairs, including stories about a lawyer’s effort to save a human trafficking victim from deportation, laws that aid and abet underage prostitution, and an international trademark dispute involving Stolichnaya vodka. Assigned and edited articles on notable public interest legal work for the magazine’s Good Works department, in addition to editing and assigning news stories and personal essays.
August 1999 to May 2004 San Francisco, CA	SF Weekly Staff Writer Enterprised, wrote and reported award-winning investigative articles on subjects ranging from Big Tobacco’s “Project California,” a political conspiracy to funnel money away from anti-smoking health education; to a special report on wrongful convictions in California; to the realities of attending an underfunded public school in San Francisco.
June to September 1998 New York, NY	George Magazine American Society of Magazine Editors Summer Intern Researched politics and current events. Wrote book reviews and articles for the Primaries section.
April to June 1998 San Francisco, CA	San Francisco Examiner Intern Reporter/Copy editor Wrote page-one news articles and 30-inch news-features on topics such as public school student protests, the controversies over the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge re-design, and a Bay Area safari. Copy edited and wrote headlines, decks and captions.
February 1995 to September 1997 San Jose, CA	San Jose Metro Editorial Assistant Wrote news stories, features and profiles for three of Metro’s community newspapers. Also wrote theater, film and music reviews for Metro and its web site.
